A Foundation of Investing

Investment of my finances is something I've been interested in for about 4 years and am only now in a position to start looking into. As a result, I've been thinking and praying for a foundational philosophy to govern my investing, which in essence means I want the guidance of God in all my investing.

Here is what I've arrived at so far: God is one day going to shake every man-made system on earth and nothing man-made will last through it. Only the eternal will last. And we can only produce anything eternal through our heart-level faith in the eternal (namely, God Himself). In the long run, a billion American dollars may not mean a hill of beans. In the long-run, right before God finally establishes His kingdom on earth, all transaction in life, including financial transaction will be based on allegiance, either to the antichrist world ruler coming on the scene or to Jesus, the Anointed One of God. The antichrist system will utilize a universal currency that will restrict any dissenters from transaction. The medium of transaction among God's people will be faith and all that proceeds from it. So, the best that I can do for the long term is to have my heart set and in allegiance to Jesus, wholeheartedly.

However, in the short term, I see a lot of wisdom in financial investment, prayer and careful investment. I believe that most of my investment should be in the forward march of God's kingdom, but some of it should be the short term. I must be able to operate in this world as it is right now and build a strong foundation for the days that are coming, where the dollar and about every other currency will be meaningless for those who follow God.

Nobody ever taught me how to handle money in a responsible or godly way growing up, so I've been grateful for Dave Ramsey's ministry, at least in the way of basic money management.

You are fortunate to have a family that has taken these matters to heart through the years. We are not taught about things like this in the public schools. If we do not know about business and finance, we will usually settle into the life of being what I call a "hive worker." We make just enough to keep us satisfied but not enough to do anything really great. When we retire, most of us have enough to stay alive, but, not enough to really live and be a blessing to other with our retirement funds. Just remember: the information and methods are all available so that we may learn. It is up to each of us to seek these pearls out and wear them ourselves.
